89-21-04 R1 BOEING: Amendment 39-6349 as corrected by Amendment 39-6549. Docket No. 88-NM-201-AD. \n\n\tApplicability: Model 767 series airplanes, equipped with Pratt and Whitney JT9D series engines or General Electric CF6-80A series engines, specified in Boeing Service Bulletin 767- 71-0041, dated September 22, 1988, certificated in any category.\n \n\tCompliance: Required within 15 months after the effective date of this AD, unless previously accomplished. \n\n\tTo minimize the potential for a thrust loss greater than the loss of one engine due to a lightning strike, accomplish the following: \n\n\tA.\tModify the engine electrical and electronic engine control wiring in accordance with Boeing Service Bulletin 767-71-0041, dated September 22, 1988; Revision 1, dated April 6, 1989; or Revision 2, dated June 29, 1989. \n\n\tB.\tAn alternate means of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time, which provides an acceptable level of safety, may be used when approved by the Manager, Seattle Aircraft Certification Office, FAA, Northwest Mountain Region. \n\n\tNOTE: The request should be forwarded through an FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI), who will either concur or comment, and then send it to the Manager, Seattle Aircraft Certification Office. \n\n\tC.\tSpecial flight permits may be issued in accordance with FAR 21.197 and 21.199 to operate airplanes to a base in order to comply with the requirements of this AD. \n\n\tAll persons affected by this directive who have not already received the appropriate service documents from the manufacturer may obtain copies upon request to Boeing Commercial Airplanes, P.O. Box 3707, Seattle, Washington 98124. These documents may be examined at the FAA, Northwest Mountain Region, Transport Airplane Directorate, 17900 Pacific Highway South, Seattle, Washington, or at the Seattle Aircraft Certification Office, 9010 East Marginal Way South, Seattle, Washington. \n\n\tThe effective date for the requirements of this amendment remains November 8, 1989, as specified in Amendment 39-6349, AD 89-21-04. \n\n\tThis AD revises AD 89-21-04, Amendment 39-6349. \n\tThis amendment (39-6549, AD 89-21-04 R1) becomes effective on March 29, 1990.
