Docket No. 2000-SW-37-AD. \n\n\tApplicability: Model 206L-4 helicopters, with High Altitude Tail Rotor Kit, part number (P/N) 206-704-722-101 (BHT-206-SI-2054), installed, certificated in any category. \n\n\tNote 1: This AD applies to each helicopter identified in the preceding applicability provision, regardless of whether it has been otherwise modified, altered, or repaired in the area subject to the requirements of this AD. For helicopters that have been modified, altered, or repaired so that the performance of the requirements of this AD is affected, the owner/operator must request approval for an alternative method of compliance in accordance with paragraph (d) of this AD. The request should include an assessment of the effect of the modification, alteration, or repair on the unsafe condition addressed by this AD; and if the unsafe condition has not been eliminated, the request should include specific proposed actions to address it. \n\n\tCompliance: Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously. \n\n\tTo prevent failure of the tail rotor yoke in flight and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter, accomplish the following: \n\n\t(a) Within 100 hours time-in-service, install a high altitude tail rotor static stop yield indicator (indicator), P/N 206-011-752-101, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions, Part II, Bell Helicopter Textron Alert Service Bulletin No. 206L-96-104, Revision B, dated July 24, 1998. \n\n\t(b) Before each engine start, check the indicator for damage in accordance with Figure 1 of this AD. If damage is found, before further flight, replace the damaged indicator with an airworthy indicator, and replace the tail rotor yoke, P/N 406-012-102-107, with an airworthy tail rotor yoke. \n\nBILLING CODE 4910--13-U \n\n\n\n\n\nBILLING CODE 4910-13-C \n\n\t(c) An owner/operator (pilot) holding at least a private pilot certificate may perform the visual check required by paragraph (b) of this AD and must record compliance in the helicopter maintenance records in accordance with 14 CFR 43.11 and 91.417(a)(2)(v)). \n\n\t(d) An alternative method of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used if approved by the Manager, Rotorcraft Certification Office, Rotorcraft Directorate, FAA. Operators shall submit their requests through an FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector, who may concur or comment and then send it to the Manager, Rotorcraft Certification Office. \n\n\tNote 2: Information concerning the existence of approved alternative methods of compliance with this AD, if any, may be obtained from the Rotorcraft Certification Office. \n\n\t(e) Special flight permits may be issued in accordance with 14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199 to operate the helicopter to a location where the requirements of this AD can be accomplished. \n\n\t(f) The modification shall be done in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions,Part II, Bell Helicopter Textron Alert Service Bulletin No. 206L-96-104, Revision B, dated July 24, 1998. This incorporation by reference was approved by the Director of the Federal Register in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552(a) and 1 CFR part 51.
