Supersedes AD 2000-03-12, Amendment 39-11571. \n\n\tApplicability: Model MD-11 series airplanes, as listed in Boeing Service Bulletin MD11-24-128, Revision 03, dated May 17, 2001; certificated in any category. \n\n\tNote 1: This AD applies to each airplane identified in the preceding applicability provision, regardless of whether it has been modified, altered, or repaired in the area subject to the requirements of this AD. For airplanes that have been modified, altered, or repaired so that the performance of the requirements of this AD is affected, the owner/operator must request approval for an alternative method of compliance in accordance with paragraph (b) of this AD. The request should include an assessment of the effect of the modification, alteration, or repair on the unsafe condition addressed by this AD; and, if the unsafe condition has not been eliminated, the request should include specific proposed actions to address it. \n\n\tCompliance: Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously. \n\n\tTo prevent loss of the charging capability of the air driven generator (ADG), that when coupled with a loss of all normal electrical power, could prevent continued safe flight and landing of the airplane, accomplish the following: \n\nReplacement \n\n\t(a) Within 1 year after the effective date of this AD, do the actions specified in paragraphs (a)(1), (a)(2), and (a)(3) of this AD per Boeing Service Bulletin MD11-24-128, Revision 03, dated May 17, 2001. \n\n\t\t(1) Replace the ADG wire assembly, part number (P/N) ACS9006-501 and/or ACS9006-502, located on the transformer panel at station Y=568.333 in the right air conditioning compartment with a new wire assembly, P/N SR11240033-101. \n\n\tNote 2: The referenced service bulletin incorrectly lists the new wire assembly as having P/N SR1124033-101 in paragraph 3.A.4. of the Accomplishment Instructions. The correct P/N is SR11240033-101, as indicated in paragraph (a)(1) of this AD. \n\n\t\t(2) Replace the associated clamps and screws of the ADG wire assembly with new clamps and screws. \n\n\t\t(3) Torque tighten terminal hardware to the limits specified in the service bulletin. \n\n\tNote 3: Accomplishment of the actions specified in Boeing Service Bulletin MD11-24-128, Revision 02, dated October 31, 2000, before the effective date of this AD, is considered acceptable for compliance with the requirements of this AD. \n\nAlternative Methods of Compliance \n\n\t(b) An alternative method of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used if approved by the Manager, Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office (ACO), FAA. Operators shall submit their requests through an appropriate FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector, who may add comments and then send it to the Manager, Los Angeles ACO. \n\n\tNote 4: Information concerning the existence of approved alternative methods of compliance with this AD, if any, may be obtained from the Los Angeles ACO. \n\nSpecial Flight Permits \n\n\t(c) Special flight permits may be issued in accordance with sections 21.197 and 21.199 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199) to operate the airplane to a location where the requirements of this AD can be accomplished. \n\nIncorporation by Reference \n\n\t(d) The actions shall be done in accordance with Boeing Service Bulletin MD11-24-128, Revision 03, dated May 17, 2001.
