Supersedes AD 95-21-05, Amendment 39-9390. \n\n\tApplicability: Model 767 series airplanes, as listed in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, dated January 30, 1997; certificated in any category. \n\n\tNOTE 1: This AD applies to each airplane identified in the preceding applicability provision, regardless of whether it has been modified, altered, or repaired in the area subject to the requirements of this AD. For airplanes that have been modified, altered, or repaired so that the performance of the requirements of this AD is affected, the owner/operator must request approval for an alternative method of compliance in accordance with paragraph (c) of this AD. The request should include an assessment of the effect of the modification, alteration, or repair on the unsafe condition addressed by this AD; and, if the unsafe condition has not been eliminated, the request should include specific proposed actions to address it. \n\n\tCompliance: Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously. \n\n\tTo prevent wire chafing and subsequent electrical arcing in the vicinity of the stowage box for the captain's oxygen mask, which could result in a fire in the flight compartment, accomplish the following: \n\nRestatement of Requirements of AD 95-21-05 \n\n\t(a)\tFor Model 767 series airplanes having line positions 2 through 589 inclusive except VA801 through VA810 inclusive, VN684 through VN691 inclusive, and VW701: Within 45 days after October 26, 1995 (the effective date of AD 95-21-05, amendment 39-9390), inspect to detect damage of the wire bundles in the left side of the flight compartment in the vicinity of the stowage box for the captain's oxygen mask, in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0028, dated September 7, 1995. \n\n\t\t(1)\tIf no damage is detected, prior to further flight, install protective sleeving on the wiring, and reroute the wire bundles, in accordance with the alert service bulletin. \n\n\t\t(2)\tIf any damage is detected, prior to further flight, accomplish the requirements of paragraphs (a)(2)(i) and (a)(2)(ii) of this AD.\n\n\t\t\t(i)\tRepair the wiring and perform a continuity check on each repaired wire, in accordance with the alert service bulletin. And \n\n\t\t\t(ii)\tInstall protective sleeving on the wiring and reroute the wire bundles, in accordance with the alert service bulletin. \n\nNew Requirements of This AD \n\n\t(b)\tFor all airplanes: Within 18 months after the effective date of this AD, modify the airplane wiring in the vicinity of the captain's and first officer's consoles, in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, dated January 30, 1997, or Revision 1, dated June 25, 1998. Accomplishment of this modification constitutes terminating action for the inspection requirements of this AD. \n\n\t(c)\tAn alternative method of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used if approved by the Manager, Seattle Aircraft Certification Office (ACO), FAA, Transport Airplane Directorate. Operators shall submit their requests through an appropriate FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector, who may add comments and then send it to the Manager, Seattle ACO. \n\n\tNOTE 2: Information concerning the existence of approved alternative methods of compliance with this AD, if any, may be obtained from the Seattle ACO. \n\n\t(d)\tSpecial flight permits may be issued in accordance with sections 21.197 and 21.199 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199) to operate the airplane to a location where the requirements of this AD can be accomplished. \n\n\t(e)\tThe actions shall be done in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0028, dated September 7, 1995; or Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, dated January 30, 1997; or Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, Revision 1, dated June 25, 1998. \n\n\t\t(1)\tThe incorporation by reference of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0028, dated September 7, 1995, was approved previously by the Director of the Federal Register, as of October 26, 1995 (60 FR 52844, October 11, 1995). \n\n\t\t(2)\tThe incorporation by reference of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, dated January 30, 1997, and Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-35A0029, Revision 1, dated June 25, 1998, is approved by the Director of the Federal Register, in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552(a) and 1 CFR part 51. \n\n\t\t(3)\tCopies may be obtained from Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, P.O.
