Adoption of the Amendment \n\n\n\tAccordingly, under the authority delegated to me by the Administrator, the FAA amends 14 CFR part 39 as follows: \n\nPART 39--AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES \n\n0 1. The authority citation for part 39 continues to read as follows: \n\n\n\tAuthority: 49 U.S.C. 106(g), 40113, 44701. \n\n\n\nSec. 39.13 (Amended) \n\n0 2. The FAA amends Sec. 39.13 by removing Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2012-12-08, Amendment 39-17088 (77 FR 37781, June 25, 2012; corrected July 20, 2012 (77 FR 42625)), and adding the following new AD: \n\n2014-05-09 The Boeing Company: Amendment 39-17782; Docket No. FAA- 2013-0789; Directorate Identifier 2013-NM-127-AD. \n\n(a) Effective Date \n\n\n\tThis AD is effective April 14, 2014. \n\n(b) Affected ADs \n\n\n\tThis AD supersedes AD 2012-12-08, Amendment 39-17088 (77 FR 37781, June 25, 2012; corrected July 20, 2012 (77 FR 42625)). \n\n(c) Applicability \n\n\n\tThis AD applies to The Boeing Company Model 777-200 and -300 series airplanes, certificated in any category, as identified in Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013. \n\n(d) Subject \n\n\n\tAir Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 32, Landing Gear. \n\n(e) Unsafe Condition \n\n\n\tThis AD was prompted by a determination that additional airplanes may be subject to the identified unsafe condition. We are issuing this AD to prevent structural damage to the side and drag brace lock assemblies, which could result in landing gear collapse during touchdown, rollout, or taxi. \n\n(f) Compliance \n\n\n\tComply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done. \n\n(g) Part Number Inspection and Replacement \n\n\n\tExcept as required by paragraph (h) of this AD, at the applicable time specified in paragraph 1.E., ''Compliance,'' of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013: Inspect the retract actuator fuse pin to determine the part number, and replace any retractactuator fuse pin having part number 112W1769-1, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32- 0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013. A review of airplane maintenance records is acceptable in lieu of this inspection if the part number of the retract actuator fuse pin can be conclusively determined from that review. Except as required by paragraph (h) of this AD, do all applicable replacements at the applicable time specified in paragraph 1.E., ''Compliance,'' of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013. \n\n\n\t(h) Exception to Service Information Specifications \n\n\n\tWhere Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013, specifies a compliance time ''after the Revision 2 date of this service bulletin,'' this AD requires compliance within the specified compliance time after the effective date of this AD. \n\n\n\t(i) Parts Installation Prohibition(1) For airplanes identified in Group 1 of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013: As of July 30, 2012 (the effective date of AD 2012-12-08, Amendment 39-17088 (77 FR 37781, June 25, 2012; corrected July 20, 2012 (77 FR 42625)), no person may install a retract actuator fuse pin having part number 112W1769-1 on any airplane. \n\n((Page 13208)) \n\n\n\t(2) For airplanes identified in Group 2 of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 2, dated May 2, 2013: As of the effective date of this AD, no person may install a retract actuator fuse pin having part number 112W1769-1 on any airplane. \n\n\n\t(j) Credit for Previous Actions \n\n\n\t(1) This paragraph provides credit for the actions specified in paragraph (g) of this AD, if those actions were performed before the effective date of AD 2012-12-08, Amendment 39-17088 (77 FR 37781, June 25, 2012; corrected July 20, 2012 (77 FR 42625)), using Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, dated February 5, 2009, which is not incorporated by reference in this AD. \n\t(2) This paragraph provides credit for the actions specified in paragraph (g) of this AD, if those actions were performed before the effective date of this AD using Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 777-32-0083, Revision 1, dated February 17, 2011, which is not incorporated by reference in this AD. \n\n(k) Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) \n\n\n\t(1) The Manager, Seattle Aircraft Certification Office (ACO), FAA, has the authority to approve AMOCs for this AD, if requested using the procedures found in 14 CFR 39.19. In accordance with 14 CFR 39.19, send your request to your principal inspector or local Flight Standards District Office, as appropriate. If sending information directly to the manager of the ACO, send it to the attention of the person identified in paragraph (l)(1) of this AD. Information may be emailed to: 9-ANM-Seattle-ACO-AMOC-Requests@faa.gov. \n\t(2) Before using any approved AMOC, notify your appropriate principal inspector, or lacking a principal inspector, the manager of the local flight standards district office/certificate holding district office. \n\t(3) An AMOC that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used for any repair required by this AD if it is approved by the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) that has been authorized by the Manager, Seattle ACO, to make those findings.
