Docket No. FAA- 2007-27042; Directorate Identifier 2006-NM-225-AD. \n\nEffective Date \n\n\t(a) This airworthiness directive (AD) is effective January 20, 2011. \n\nAffected ADs \n\n\t(b) None. \n\nApplicability \n\n\t(c) This AD applies to The Boeing Company airplanes, certificated in any category, as identified in the applicable service information specified in Table 1 of this AD. \n\n\tTable 1--Service Information\n\n\nFor Model- \nBoeing- \n777-200, -300, and -300ER airplanes.\nService Bulletin 777- 57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009. \n777-200 and -300 airplanes. \nAlert Service Bulletin 777-57A0051, dated May 15, 2006. \n777-200, -300, and -300ER airplanes. \nAlert Service Bulletin 777-57A0057, Revision 1, dated Au-gust 2, 2007. \n777-200, -300, and -300ER airplanes.\nAlert Service Bulletin 777-57A0059, dated October 30, 2008. \n\n\tNote 1: Although Boeing Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009, refers to "Model 777-200ER'' airplanes, this is a European designation that does not apply to airplanes of U.S. registry. Therefore, the applicability of this AD will not specify Model 777-200ER airplanes. However, U.S. operators should consider any reference to Model 777-200ER airplanes in Boeing Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, Revision 2, as applicable to Model 777-200 airplanes as designated by the type certificate data sheet. \n\nSubject \n\n\t(d) Air Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 57: Wings. \n\nUnsafe Condition \n\n\t(e) This AD results from fuel system reviews conducted by the manufacturer. The Federal Aviation Administration is issuing this AD to prevent electrical arcing on the fuel tank boundary structure or inside the main and center fuel tanks, which could result in a fire or explosion. \n\nCompliance \n\n\t(f) You are responsible for having the actions required by this AD performed within the compliance times specified, unless the actions have already been done. \n\nCorrectiveActions (Installing Teflon Sleeving, Cap Sealing, One-Time Inspection) \n\n\t(g) Within 60 months after the effective date of this AD, do the applicable actions specified in paragraph (g)(1), (g)(2), (g)(3), or (g)(4) of this AD. \n\n\t(1) For airplanes identified in Boeing Service Bulletin 777- 57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009: Install Teflon sleeving under the clamps of certain wire bundles routed along the fuel tank boundary structure and cap seal certain penetrating fasteners of the fuel tanks, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009. \n\n\t(2) For airplanes identified in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0051, dated May 15, 2006: Cap seal certain penetrating fasteners of the fuel tanks, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0051, dated May 15, 2006. \n\n\t(3) For airplanes identified in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0057, Revision 1,dated August 2, 2007: Do a general visual inspection to determine if certain fasteners are cap sealed and do all applicable corrective actions, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777- 57A0057, Revision 1, dated August 2, 2007. Do all applicable corrective actions before further flight. \n\n\t(4) For airplanes identified in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0059, dated October 30, 2008: Cap seal the fasteners in the center fuel tanks that were not sealed during production, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0059, dated October 30, 2008. \n\nCredit for Actions Done Using Previous Issues of the Service Bulletins \n\n\t(h) Actions done before the effective date of this AD in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, dated January 26, 2006; or Revision 1, dated August 2, 2007; are acceptable for compliance with the corresponding actions required by paragraph (g)(1) of this AD, provided that the applicable additional work specified in Boeing Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009, is done within the compliance time specified in paragraph (g) of this AD. The additional work must be done in accordance with Boeing Service Bulletin 777-57A0050, Revision 2, dated May 14, 2009. \n\n\t(i) Actions done before the effective date of this AD in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 777-57A0057, dated August 7, 2006, are acceptable for compliance with the actions required by paragraph (g)(3) of this AD. \n\nAlternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) \n\n\t(j)(1) The Manager, Seattle Aircraft Certification Office (ACO), FAA, has the authority to approve AMOCs for this AD, if requested using the procedures found in 14 CFR 39.19. Before using any approved AMOC on any airplane to which the AMOC applies, notify your principal maintenance inspector (PMI) or principal avionics inspector (PAI), as appropriate, or lacking a principal inspector, your local Flight Standards District Office. The AMOC approval letter must specifically reference this AD. \n\n\t(3) An AMOC that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used for any repair required by this AD if it is approved by the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) that has been authorized by the Manager, Seattle ACO, to make those findings.
