Docket 2003-NM- 251-AD. \n\n\tApplicability: Model DC-9-82 (MD-82) and DC-9-83 (MD-83) airplanes, and Model MD-88 airplanes; as listed in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin MD80-25A367, Revision 01, dated June 14, 2002; certificated in any category.\n \n\tCompliance: Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously. \n\tTo prevent uncommanded movement of the captain's and first officer's seats during takeoff and landing, which could result in interference with the operation of the airplane and consequent temporary loss of control of the airplane, accomplish the following: \n\nInspection and Corrective Actions \n\n\t(a) Within 6 months after the effective date of this AD, perform a detailed inspection of the captain's and first officer's seat track locking pins for sufficient engagement, and any applicable corrective actions by accomplishing all the actions in the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin MD80- 25A367, Revision 01, dated June 14, 2002. Do the actions per the service bulletin. Any applicable corrective actions must be accomplished before further flight. \n\n\tNote 1: For the purposes of this AD, a detailed inspection is defined as: "An intensive visual examination of a specific structural area, system, installation, or assembly to detect damage, failure, or irregularity. Available lighting is normally supplemented with a direct source of good lighting at intensity deemed appropriate by the inspector. Inspection aids such as mirror, magnifying lenses, etc., may be used. Surface cleaning and elaborate access procedures may be required." \n\nInspection/Corrective Actions Accomplished per Previous Issue of Service Bulletin \n\n\t(b) Any inspection/corrective action accomplished before the effective date of this AD per Boeing Alert Service Bulletin MD80- 25A367, dated December 6, 1999, is considered acceptable for compliance with the corresponding inspection/corrective action specified in this AD. \n\nAlternative Methods of Compliance \n\n\t(c) In accordance with 14 CFR 39.19, the Manager, Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office, FAA, is authorized to approve alternative methods of compliance for this AD. \n\nIncorporation by Reference \n\n\t(d) Unless otherwise specified in this AD, the actions shall be done in accordance with Boeing Alert Service Bulletin MD80-25A367, Revision 01, dated June 14, 2002. This incorporation by reference was approved by the Director of the Federal Register in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 552(a) and 1 CFR part 51.
